Littleton, New Hampshire
August 3, 2007 After much waiting for the fuel truck to arrive this am and give us our refueling, we finally made our first camp. It's sort of up on a hill above the main campground and is quiet and pretty, surrounded by tall pines and birch trees. It smells amazing -- Christmas in August. Kell made a few friends among the campground kids and seemed to be very at east being here -- what a relief! I've been so worried (and will continue to be) about how he's adjusting. Probably no need to. We went up to Franconia Notch State Park and Cannon ski resort today and took the tramway to the top and hiked around a bit. They have a beautiful ridge trail that snakes around the ridge rock outcroppings and through dense dwarfed coniferous forest. It's quite beautiful. Then we poked around Littleton a bit. A very cute town on the banks of a little river. We might stay another day to check it out some more and do some more hiking. It's so cool tonight it's lovely. I can smell the incense that Miles is burning as he practices and it brings me right back to the solitary retreat cabins of the Abbey in Nova Scotia. I can't wait to get back there.... Jane and Kell mid-hike at Cannon. |
