Finally, we achieve the Cape.

It seems like the whole trip has been waypoints until now ... at least for me. I think that ever since we changed our original plan (heading directly for Alaska) and decided to spend most of August in Nova Scotia instead, I've been salivating to get back here to Cape Breton. We left Lake Charlotte two days ago after a very peaceful couple of days exploring the lake and the surrounding areas. Unfortunately, exploring the lake (by canoe) included me letting our digital camera take a dip in the icy waters -- oops! We had been contemplating buying a fancy new camera for the trip before leaving but had put it off, scared mostly by the expense. But it seemed that fate (or just plain stupidity) intervened in our decision making process. So, before heading to the Cape, we drove back to Halifax (trailer in tow), to the big box section of town and plopped down way more than we should have on a new Pentax K10D -- a digital SLR. It gave me a big rush to add this very professional camera to our arsenal of trip of equipment. Miles had painstakingly researched which digital SLRs were the best and I think he (as always) chose wisely. Of course, having just crossed the Canso causeway into the Cape we realized that the sale clerk at the store had given us the wrong disk to go with the camera. Luckily, the disk from our old digital camera was still in perfect working order and was compatible.

So, now we're in Inverness and it's totally beautiful ... long sandy beaches and green plateaus of meadows overlooking the water.  The Cape folks really love to mow their meadows.  Kell got  lost in the crossed paths mowed into the meadow above our new campsite.

We had a couple of great walks along the beach in Inverness, practically empty of people, but full of things to look at!
